Aids Ribbon

Natalie Chew

I am currently a third year medical student at Imperial College in London. I have been involved in HIV charity work since the age of sixteen. I volunteered in an HIV Day Care Centre in Singapore for two years during my secondary education. Since coming to university, I have continued my involvement with HIV projects; my most recent contribution was on the organising committee for World AIDS week in December 2004 at my university. I am looking forwards to getting involved at the orphanage in Kenya. AIDS has been particularly devastating to Africa, and I am sure that visiting Africa and seeing how AIDS has affected the people there will give me new insight into the world AIDS problem.

Furthermore, I am very excited about climbing Kilimanjaro. I have always enjoyed trekking. I have been on expeditions in Malaysia, Japan and also in the Himalayas. My most memorable expedition was in Ladakh in India. It was my first experience with severe altitude, reaching 18000ft in my two week trek. Most of my travels to date have been in Asia, I am certain that Africa will be a wonderful, new experience, and I can’t wait to get there!
